Failed to read volume information for XXX, err 1005

Hi.

There are some discussions that mentioned error doesn’t allow to install Oracle RAC on Windows platform.

I have faced the same issue last week so I decided to make short post about it.

Excerpt from C:\Windows\Temp\exectask.log:

So what is this strange error 1005 ?

Let’s look at Windows error codes:

1005 The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted.

So, there is nothing special – volume doesn’t have “recognized file system”, but it’s OK because we are going to use the whole volume as a RAW device for ASM diskgroup, so IT IS NOT AN ERROR – IT’S JUST A MESSAGE!

If You are not able to install Oracle RAC and see this “error message”, then You have to check other log and trace-files to find REAL PROBLEM.
